H.E. Amb. Nelson Ocheger, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, met with Hon. Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, at the Minister’s office in Abuja.
 
The two appreciated the existing cordial bilateral relations and discussed the need to scale it up by increasing the volume of trade, investment, tourism and knowledge sharing between the two countries.
 
To achieve this, they discussed the need to conclude the process of reviewing the various bilateral agreements and MoUs between Uganda and Nigeria so as to ably facilitate mutually beneficial interactions.
 
They noted that significant progress has been made on both sides in preparation for the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) meetings as well as the Uganda/Nigeria Business Forum to be held in May 2024 in Kampala.
 
The High Commissioner informed the Minister that the commencement of direct flights between Uganda and Nigeria has already ushered in a new era of interaction between the two countries by making it cheaper and faster to travel especially for the private sector. He called on the two countries to leverage the AfCFTA framework and further boost the quality and quantity of goods and services traded between the two countries. 
 
The Minister welcomed the need for cooperation with Uganda in various sectors, and specifically reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to share with Uganda her decades-long experience in the Oil and Gas sector.
