The President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, has applauded his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his relentless Pan African spirit and reiterated his country's commitment to cordial diplomatic relations with the Republic of Uganda. He made the remarks while receiving letters of credence by which President Museveni accredits Nelson Ocheger as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of Guinea Bissau. President Umaro Sissoco Embalo congratulated and welcomed the new Ugandan envoy to Guinea Bissau, assuring him of his governments desire to consolidating good relations with the government of Uganda for mutual benefit. Amb. Nelson Ocheger underscored the warm bilateral relations that do exist between Uganda and Guinea Bissau and stressed the need to consolidate the said relations as it resonates with the desire and commitment of President Museveni and his Guinean counterpart, to strengthen them. He stressed, however, that both countries ought to take advantage of the good relations existing between them to benefit their respective citizens and the African continent. Amb. Nelson Ocheger reminded his host that the signing in March 2018, of the Agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area, has provided East and West Africa with the impetus to invest in air, rail, road and water transport to facilitate the movement of goods and services across the two regions in particular and Africa generally. He hailed the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) framework, which was launched by the African Union to promote trade and cross border investments across the continent. He pointed out that since SAATM has the aim of increasing connectivity between African nations whilst reducing flight prices, it is imperative to leverage the framework for increased cooperation between the two countries to, among others, promote commercial and economic diplomacy. Resident in Abuja, Nigeria, Guinea Bissau becomes the latest country that Amb. Nelson Ocheger has presented letters of credence to the Head of State in the West African region. The remaining countries include the Republics of; Cape Verde, Gambia, Niger and Senegal.
